Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds

Did you know my sprouted, organic pumpkin seeds are the best selling product at Nate's Raw Harvest?

Sprouted pumpkin seeds are one of the most nutritious snacks you can have.  Pumpkin seeds are a concentrated source of protein, containing around 7 grams per ounce!  They also contain high amounts of iron, zinc, and magnesium.  If you're one that doesn't eat red meat, or any at all, then the protein and iron in pumpkin seeds make it an easy choice Zinc is important to your body for building the immune system, sleep regulation, mood, your senses of taste and smell, eye and skin health, insulin regulation, and male sexual function.  Just one quarter cup of pumpkin seeds contains half of your daily magnesium.  Magnesium is quickly becoming noticed as one of the most important minerals and one that we are usually deficient in (up to 80% of the US Population).  If that wasn't enough, pumpkin seeds help kill off intestinal parasites (http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/condition/intestinal-parasites).  Honestly, the benefits are numerous.  If you want even more information check out this article by Dr. Mercola: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/09/30/pumpkin-seed-benefits.aspx

Be aware of the downside to pumpkin seeds.  If you are buying them in the bulk section of your local supermarket then they are most likely rancid due to oxygen exposure.  If they are a dull green/yellow color, smell rancid, or taste off then they are spoiled.  Also, pumpkin seeds, as do all nuts and seeds, contain phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors.  Phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors cannot be digested and not only block you from absorbing minerals (calcium, magnesium, and iron), but can also cause digestive irritation such as itchy throat and stomach pains.  By eating sprouted pumpkin seeds you are avoiding all of the phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors, making them easier to digest and easier to absorb all of those vital minerals we need so much.  Organic, sprouted pumpin seeds are the best as there are no toxic pesticides or fertilizers on them either.

The pumpkin seeds here at Nate's Raw Harvest are organic and I sprout them all by hand.  No machines handle them besides the dehydrators ensuring that the skin stays intact on the seed and minimizing any damage that may increase the chance oxidation, therefore maximizing the taste, freshness, and nutrition.  Try them for yourself.  The dark green variety of organic pumpkin seeds have a nuttier taste than the light green variety and leave no aftertaste or pungency.  Great on salads, yogurts, raw food dishes, or just by the handful!
