Homeschool Science Fun with Pre-Schoolers

The heat index today was 110 degrees in Texas. 110 DEGREES! Summer is kicking our butts and it is only the beginning of our hottest month of the year. After a quick drive to the grocery store left me beet red and soaked to the bone in sweat (attractive, I know), I quickly threw out any and all thoughts of taking my kids to the park or pool and will instead have to find fun, INDOOR ways to beat the heat. Seeing as we home school, I thought it best to incorporate a little bit of summer fun with some...

Picnic at Home!

Picnic at Home!

Ugh, Summer.  While I love being able to grab my kids and get them out into the summer sun, I admit it can be exhausting. Often, a day at the beach starts off with a seemingly endless amount of parent-power and (after the sun has zapped me dry) ends with me spilling into my house at 4:30 PM trying to figure out what the heck I'm feeding my kids for dinner.  An easy, no-hassle option would be to order in a pizza or take the kids out for dinner, but, after spending years investing in organic, whole foods, it's hard to...

In heat like this, it's hard to convince my kids to stay outside in increments longer than 10 minute and, while swimming would be our normal go-to, I can't say any of us are in the mood to swim in water that feels, at best, like luke-warm bath water. Insert impromptu, mid-day, movies and popcorn.  It's a classic on days where the weather is...

Recipe: Chocolate Cheesecake Fatbombs

This is a daily staple at our house. You can even make this vegan-friendly if desired. 1. Cheesecake filling Take 12 oz. of room temperature organic Cream Cheese or, if you're vegan, I recommend making your own organic cashew cream cheese, and blend in a food processor with 6 tablespoon melted coconut oil and 6 oz. diced fresh strawberries, blueberries or raspberries. If you prefer a bit more sweetness, add additional strawberries or 1/4 teaspoon raw honey, blend and pour mixtures into muffin tins 2/3 of the way full.  2. Chocolate Topping  Take 2 large avocados plus 1 tablespoon tallow or melted coconut oil and 3/4 cup...

The Alkaline Myth. Understanding Acids, Alkalines, and pH for Health Part II

The Alkaline Myth. Understanding Acids, Alkalines, and pH for Health Part II

In Part I of The Alkaline Myth Series I discussed the basics of pH and that it differs throughout the human body depending on which specific part of the body you are talking about.  Each part has a specific pH in order to perform a function and to also counter the opposing pH of other body parts.  The easiest example can be seen when the alkaline juices of the pancreas and gall bladder meet the very acidic contents of the stomach when they are emptied into the intestines.  This helps prevent the stomach acid from burning a hole in the...
